Free typing lessons for kids, built the way children actually learn
Kids Typing Journey is a free, 15-level touch-typing course for children aged 5 to 14, made up of 58 short lessons. It starts with the two home-row anchor keys, F and J, and introduces only two new keys at a time, so a child is never shown a letter they have not been taught. Every lesson shows an animated keyboard and a hand diagram indicating the exact finger to use, and beginner lessons will not advance until the correct key is pressed. Progress, badges, coins and a printable certificate are all included, and no account, email address or payment is required.
How the journey is structured

What makes this different
It teaches the finger, not just the key
Every prompt shows an animated hand with the correct finger raised, colour-matched to the key on screen. "Use your left pointer" means nothing to a six-year-old; a picture of the finger does.
Beginner lessons wait for the right key
For the first ten levels a wrong key does not advance the cursor. A child physically cannot practise the wrong movement, which is how muscle memory is built correctly the first time.
No star is awarded for speed alone
Two stars need accuracy. Three need accuracy and pace. It is impossible to be rewarded for typing fast and sloppily — the habit that stalls most self-taught typists.
No account, no data collection
A first name creates a profile. Progress is saved in the browser and never uploaded. Nothing about your child is stored on a server, because nothing needs to be.

What age can a child start learning to type?
Most children can start learning to touch type at around age 6 or 7, once their hands are big enough to rest all eight fingers on the home row and they can read simple words. Children aged 5 to 6 can begin with single-key games, while ages 8 to 14 typically progress fastest. How long does it take a child to learn to type?
With 10 to 15 minutes of practice a day, most children can touch type the whole alphabet without looking in about 6 to 8 weeks, and reach 25 to 30 words per minute within 4 to 6 months. What is a good typing speed for a child?

Does my child need an account or login?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address and no password. A child types a first name to create a profile, and all progress is saved in that browser using local storage. Nothing is transmitted to a server, which means no personal data about your child is collected or stored online.
